Aive
Aive suffers from celiac disease, a chronic autoimmune disease caused by the common protein, gluten. Due to this, Aive cannot eat any wheat, rye and barley products.
Often, people assume that a gluten-free diet is just a fad, without realizing that it can be related to a serious health condition. It is important to know that celiac disease is not a food intolerance or an allergy.
Aive was diagnosed with celiac disease at the age of 27, but she believes that her condition may have started much earlier in her life. Celiac disease is underdiagnosed both in Estonia and elsewhere in the world. By the time she was 27, Aive’s symptoms had become severe, and her weight had dropped to less than 40 kilograms.
For several decades, Aive has been a volunteer for the Estonian Celiac Society, so her mission has long been to promote and support the celiac disease community. Aive is also a trainer and lecturer, actively supervising courses.
